Vashlovani

Uplistsikhe

Uplistsikhe is one of the oldest settlements in Georgia. Founded around the 6th century BC, this remarkable cave city was carved directly into the rock and later became an important religious and cultural center along the Silk Road. Today it is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the country.

Landscape: rocky hills and dry steppe landscapes along the Mtkvari River

Known for: ancient rock-hewn city dating back to the 6th century BC
